Illustration Friday - Hats

Golf IS the most pointless game on earth.
And they all wear hats. (Even the little guy driving that cart).

"Golf appeals to the idiot in us and the child. Just how childlike golf players become is proven by their frequent inability to count past five." ~John Updike

"I have a tip that can take five strokes off anyone's golf game: it's called an eraser." ~Arnold Palmer

"Golf is a lot of walking, broken up by disappointment and bad arithmetic." ~Author Unknown

"It's easy to see golf not as a game at all but as some whey-faced, nineteenth-century Presbyterian minister's fever dream of exorcism achieved through ritual and self-mortification." ~Bruce McCall

"I guess there is nothing that will get your mind off everything like golf. I have never been depressed enough to take up the game, but they say you get so sore at yourself you forget to hate your enemies." ~Will Rogers

"Golf is a good walk spoiled." ~Mark Twain

"Golf balls are attracted to water as unerringly as the eye of a middle-aged man to a female bosom." ~Michael Green, The Art of Coarse Golf, 1967

The early bird gets the worm, but the second rat gets the cheese.

This is a drawing from a LONG time ago. For some reason I used to have a fascination with rats. Happy Halloween everybody!!

5 objects. 7 times.

I rarely draw the same thing more than once. These drawings were for a painting assignment. The 5 objects are the same in each, though I moved around slightly to alter the viewpoint.

Special bonus points if you guess which one was used for the painting. :-)

Illustration Friday - Grow

What would I do if I wasn't afraid?

"Failure seldom stops you; what stops you
is the fear of failure."

-- Jack Lemmon, (1925-2001), Actor

p.s. Tomorrow is my birthday, so leave me some
of YOUR wisdom about growing. :-)

My path?

Illustration Friday - Extremes

My extreme fear of death motivates so many drawings. Some days (like today) I'm actually grateful for it. :-)

"Whenever he thought about it he felt terrible.
And so, at last, he came to a fateful decision.
He decided not to think about it."

For Erica and Sandra

Dreaming of the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho. One of my homes away from home...

Tuesday, September 25, 2007

Yes, it was quite grand.

Just got back from seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time. Pictures just don't do it justice. But if you'd like to see them anyway, leave me a comment and an email and I'll send you a link! :-)

3 ladders

Ladders are a favorite (or favourite, if you're from some strange place like down under) subject, as some of you remember from this post. This painting/collage is also a favorite, and is creative volley number 24 with Jen. :-)

Famous in 31 days

So I was teaching a class in Syracuse last week, and while there I meet fellow blogger Leigh (murphy girl) for coffee. Next thing we know we are being interviewed by this wacky (and very funny) guy who is making a movie so he can become famous in 31 days. And the interview with us is now on his site! Click here for the interview, and here for his site, which explains the whole thing. He's completely nuts!
