This ladder metaphor really resonates with me. (Long story.) I remember a song in church school that had a very sweet melody and the chorus was "We are climbing Jacob's ladder, we are climbing Jacob's ladder, we are climbing Jacob's ladder...and the last line was the reason, and of course, I can't remember the reason--all I remember was everyone climbing Jacob's ladder! And how it had a quite robotic sound actually, however sweet. Sort of like those Olive Oil clones in Popeye, that go around saying, "I love Popeye, I love Popeye..." with their arms out like zombies. I don't know why everyone one was climbing Jacob's ladder. I suppose Jacob had a clue with God. And was making the way. But I think they were supposed to make their own ladders instead of climbing Jacob's ladder. Jacob's ladder was for Jacob, as far as I was concerned.
