waiting for Paul to open his eyes

Drew this back in June when we were spending a lot of time in the ICU waiting for my friend Paul to open his eyes. Click his name to read about his journey. He's made some huge progress, still a long way to go. I'm very grateful for the things he is teaching me on this journey. Happy holidays everyone (and yes the holiday blog is coming!). ;-)

Illustration Friday - similar

Is your brain similar to mine? Mine is similar to a nervous fly who just drank 6 cups of coffee and spotted a nearby spider similar to the one that ate his mother, then he looked down and noticed his foot is stuck to the web.

Illustration Friday - balloon

Fun with voice balloons. One in a series. See here and here and here.

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving to everyone, and to those outside the U.S., happy Friday. :-)

anticipation and creativity

This was a school assignment. In 3 and a half years of blogging this is the first video I've published here, but since it was art related I figured what the heck. This was a process I haven't done before, so there were many "learning opportunities" throughout. I'm looking forward to the next round! :-)

Illustration Friday - opinion

My opinion is that things that happen to us when we are young can have a profound effect on us as adults. :-) Happy early Thanksgiving everyone!!

Oh, and the reference to Ammon Perry's illustrations can be seen here. :-)

Illustration Friday - pretend

Sometimes I pretend this is me, and I can run really fast and catch gazelles for lunch. Even though I'm crying.

Buy my tote! :-)

The FLOWER POWER tote is finally here!

My good friend Nikki (owner of Cykochik) asked me to design a tote as part of her Artist Series line. You can be the first of your friends to have one! Click here!

You can customize it in any colors (though I'm personally fond of the orange and hot pink). :-)

Can you tell I'm excited?

Just had to post this one again

"Change is the end result of all true learning. Change involves three things: first, a dissatisfaction with self -- a felt void or need; second, a decision to change -- to fill the void or need; and third, a conscious dedication to the process of growth and change -- the willful act of making the change: doing something."

5 drawings I don't particularly like

Sometimes my pen just won't do the curves the way I want it to.

Chicken salad chicken shit? I don't remember what this was even about.

A school that didn't accept me into their grad program.

I do kind of like the cat in this one. Btw, this is a tribute to Crackskull Bob (Wally Torta).

This was the last page in an old sketchbook. I wanted to throw it back.

Illustration Friday - strings

Sarah wants to honk less at others and Michael is quitting smoking and Kerri's lesbian dog eats her panties.

Conversations are a series of very disparate subjects that seem to be connected by the thinnest of strings. But that's what makes them so fun. :-)

Illustration Friday - sugary

I wish I could offer a reasonable explanation, but I can't. There is something sugary (and disturbing) about this. Maybe I chose it because I predicted lots of happy and sweet images in reponse to this topic.

Have a glorious day. ;-)

A lot packed into this meeting. :-)

Illustration Friday - Clique

The things on my desk have formed a clique. And they're very dangerous. ;-)

In completely unrelated but important news, my friend Paul (who was hit by the truck) is still in rehab, and slowly getting better. I am playing in a golf tournament to help raise money for his family. If you'd like to support me with a donation, you can do that here. Thanks so much!

Illustration Friday - island

Sometimes I feel like an island, and am disconnected from my purpose, and where I fit in.

there is no progress."

Illustration Friday - memories

I will never forget this little girl. She was passing out little cards to raise money on a bus in Buenos Aires. She was tiny and had the sweetest little Spanish voice as she went from seat to seat hoping to get some change. I think she had a black eye which broke my heart, but it was her resolve that really moved me. And when she saw me drawing she stopped and looked over at my sketchbook and started talking to me in Spanish, like she was curious about what I was doing. I explained that I didn't speak Spanish, and she kept right on talking. I ached to know what she was asking me. I still do.

Although I suspect what really hurt was that I wanted to save her, and I couldn't.

Patricia and her mighty pencil

In a belated portrait exchange, here is my late drawing of Pati. Thanks for being so patient! You can see the one she did of me here.

Illustration Friday - routine

my little world.
